Tesla takes Model S to European markets

Tesla started its European offensive with new Model S, an electric sedan, in which Americans put their highest hopes, expecting more sales than then for the Roadster.

The manufacturer announced that on the Old Continent they will sell only superior versions of the sedan, powered by 60 kWh and 85 kWh batteries, which guarantee an autonomy of 300 miles, the equivalent of 480 kilometers.

In Germany, the basic price for a Model S with 60 kWh battery is 71.400 euros, but with Signature Performance package it may even reach 109,150 euros. As a comparison, on the US market, 60 kWh version costs $67,400.

George Blankenship, vice president of the Department of Global Sales, says that the difference between the European and North American prices comes from the inclusion of regional VAT, cumulative delivery from Tesla factory in California and modifications to the vehicle to meet local standards.

Blankenship said: “Our goal is to make the same level of profit per vehicle, regardless of the location of global market that sells it”.
