All kind of tops with best of anything are created on a yearly basis. Engines are no exception and the selection that Wards has made for year 2016 is very diverse, comprising from 4 cylinder engines to 8 cylinder ones.
Not any engine is eligible for taking part in this top; only those that are powering cars with price tags saying less than 61 000 dollars can participate in the best car engines contest.
The following engines have been selected from a total number of 31 participants, after having been evaluated on road and other pertinent circumstances by the best specialists on criteria like torque, power, noise, fuel consumption, new technologies, etc.
Here are the winners for year 2016:
-Ford Shelby Mustang GT350 runs on a 5.2 liter V8, producing 526 hp.
-The 3.6 liter V6 LGX is just one of the two engines coming from General Motors that are part of this top. It produces 335 hp.
-The second engine coming from General Motors is a hybrid electric 1.5 liter engine, with 4 cylinders, powering the Chevrolet Volt model.
The jury remarked its economical fuel consumption of only 229 MPGe.
-The hybrid system installed on Hyundai Sonata also made it into the top, with a 41-80 MPGe low fuel consumption.
The engine has 2 liters and produces 154 hp.
-And since we are talking about hybrid engines, the one on the new Prius is simply remarkable.
The 1.5 liter engine produces 95 hp and teams up with a smooth 71 hp electric engine. The fuel consumption showed a 61 MPGe economy.
-The V6 EcoDiesel engine, 3 liter, on RAM 1500 is part of the best car engines for three years in a row.
With a torque of 420 pound feet, this is one cool engine, to say the least.
-The turbocharged boxer running on Subaru, with a capacity of 2 liters, with 4 cylinders, is another winner returning from 2015.
It develops around 268 horsepower, which is quite impressive.
-Take a look at this 2 liter, 240 hp turbocharged Drive-E engine, installed on Volvo. This was last year’s star.
Volvo comes back with a 316 hp engine, running on the car of the year, according to Business Insider 2015 – Volvo XC90T6.
-Nissan’s VQ Series V6 Engine
Nissan Maxima ensures the VQ Series V6 engine is in the top, once again, in an upgraded form.
-The winner of the top is the 6 cylinder B58 3 liter engine, coming from BMW.Producing 320 horsepower, this is one hell of an engine.
